SAFE STEPS FAMILY VIOLENCE
I raised $14,000 for Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre, an organisation very close to my heart.
I did this by campaigning on Facebook and Instagram for 3 months with the promise that I would shave my hair (66 cm long, flowing, gorgeous, soft and silky smooth locks) if I reached my target. In order to get people talking about my campaign, I photoshopped images of myself with outrageous hairdos. This allowed me to draw the audience in and talk to them directly about the issue of family violence and the impact it has in the community.
The campaign culminated with a ticketed fundraising event in my backyard called ‘End The Silence, Stop The Violence’. It included three Melbourne bands, raffle prizes donated from Melbourne artists and designers, an incredible talk by a family violence survivor advocate and, of course, free booze flowing from the lovely Stomping Ground Brewery.
Also, if anyone is wondering, I donated those silky smooth locks to Australia Alopecia Areata Foundation (AAAF).
